Atmospheric River takes aim at Pacific Northwest: Heavy Rain, Wind to Target Oregon, Washington

A powerful storm system is set to impact the Pacific Northwest, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and the possibility of thunderstorms. The National Weather Service has issued wind advisories and high wind warnings for coastal areas, where gusts could reach up to 60 mph, with some spots possibly seeing winds over 65 mph. Expect dangerous conditions tonight through Wednesday morning, especially along the coast.

Rainfall will also be heavy, creating a risk for localized flooding, particularly in urban areas with clogged storm drains. Rain rates could exceed 0.2 inches per hour, which may lead to flooding in low-lying regions. While river flooding is unlikely, urban flooding will be a concern from Tuesday night through Wednesday. Drivers should exercise caution and be prepared to turn around if encountering flooded roads. Stay updated with weather alerts, and remember, “Turn around, don’t drown!”
