Stay Off The Beach: It’s For Your Own Safety, Say Oregon Officials

Well, what can one expect? It’s the middle of winter and coastal conditions along Oregon’s shores are always volatile.

If reading forecasts is your thing, this year on Oregon’s coast seems more unstable than most.

All along Oregon’s coastline, weather officials are warning people about possible exceedingly high surf, perhaps with waves as much as 30 to 35 feet. That’s a lot of ocean water being pushed ashore by storms out in the Pacific.

I was born on the Oregon Coast and currenty live just a short drive away. It’s a favorite weekend getaway destination, even in winter months where the weather can often be very mild and the beaches can hold treasure chests of shells, driftwood and other “finds” for the astute beachcomber.

Not so at the present time.

Storms can be unpredictable at times, but according to KOBI5 News reporting, a Southern Oregon affiliate of NBC News, a current upcoming storm has become very predictable.

The warning of another “bomb cyclone” hitting Oregon’s shores should be enough to alert even the most avid of beach goers, but beware that winds can reach 60+ mph and even higher!
