The Oregon Supreme Court will vote Tuesday whether to approve the appointment of former Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum as a senior judge.
Rosenblum, a Democrat and the first woman to hold the office in Oregon, concluded her third term as AG on New Year’s Eve when Dan Rayfield was sworn in .
Rosenblum’s return to the courts, if approved, would allow her complete the requirements to receive her preferred retirement plan.
Prior to her tenure as AG, Rosenblum worked for 22 years as a judge in Oregon, retiring in 2011. She served 16 years as a Multnomah County trial judge and six years on the Oregon Court of Appeals.
Under the Public Employees Retirement Fund, judges are eligible for two different retirement plans. The plan allowing a higher annual amount requires the judge to serve 35 days per year for five years after retirement as a temporary judge working pro bono, or for free. Judges can exceed the 35 days per year and roll over any additional days to fulfill future years’ obligations.
