Mount Aloysius becomes first PA college to offer rifle as sport

CRESSON, Pa. (WTAJ) – In Pennsylvania, there are 54 high school rifle teams, including 20 in our region, but no collegiate teams, until now.

Mount Aloysius announced on Wednesday that the college plans to launch a co-ed NCAA rifle team this upcoming fall.

“We want our local student-athletes to have an opportunity to come shoot in college and get this experience shooting against some pretty big schools,” Mount Aloysius Athletic Director Kevin Kime said.

Everett rifle team continues to dominate

Despite being a Division III school, the Mounties will be able to compete for the NCAA National Championship against Division I teams like Ohio State and West Virginia University.

“You guys are making history,” inaugural head coach Siarra Crum said. “You could be beating Division I schools in the next year or two, and you’re going to make Mount Aloysius known across the United States.”

Crum, a standout shooter herself and Portage, Pa. native, helped get Mount Aloysius’ sights on adding the sport.
