Pennsylvania stepping up voter registration efforts amid GOP lawsuit

(WHTM) – Pennsylvania is stepping up its efforts to get you to vote in this all-important presidential year but are all of the efforts legal? That has yet to be decided.

On Thursday an online voter education tool was unveiled by the Department of State. Education and participation are the mantra this year, but lawmakers are arguing if the Governor wants to tinker with elections he needs to pursue legislation.

The state’s voter education toolkit includes important dates, and information in English, Spanish, and even Chinese.

Secretary of the Commonwealth, Al Schmidt said “the eyes of the world are on Pennsylvania on election day because we are such a significant swing state.”

This Week in Pennsylvania

The Shapiro administration also recently expanded voter registration at PennDOT offices.

“We want to make it easier for eligible voters to be able to participate in our democracy,” said Governor Shapiro

When Pennsylvanians renew their driver’s licenses they’ll automatically be offered voter registration. You can opt out; previously, citizens had to opt in.
