New law could change school days and length of year

Longer days and shorter school weeks may change the way Pennsylvania kids go to school, thanks to a new law. Act 56 will allow Pa. school districts to choose their instructional school year. Instead of 180 days, school districts can schedule with a minimum of 900 hours. The state’s largest teachers union, the PSEA, is in favor of the new law. No school district will make significant changes to its scheduling without input from parents, faculty, and support staff.
