Power Bill Assistance Available for Pennsylvania Residents

ALTOONA, PA – Pennsylvania’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides crucial support to low-income families struggling to pay their heating bills.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, the program offers one-time cash grants ranging from $300 to $1,000, which are paid directly to utility companies or fuel providers to help offset heating costs.

The amount awarded is based on household size, income, and fuel type. Importantly, the grants do not need to be repaid, providing much-needed relief to eligible households.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, LIHEAP also offers crisis grants for households facing emergencies such as broken heating equipment, lack of fuel, or utility shut-offs.

These grants are designed to ensure that families do not go without heat during the cold winter months.

Applications for the 2023-2024 LIHEAP season has closed but 2024-2025 applications will open up later this, and both renters and homeowners are eligible to apply, even if they are not on public assistance, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.
