Harrisburg, Pa. — Pennsylvania was involved in a coalition of 50 states and territories that have settled with the generic prescription drug companies Heritage Pharmaceuticals and Apotex regarding the companies’ price inflation, manipulation, and other unfair practices.
The settlement amount totals $49.1 million, which will be paid to consumers who purchased the companies’ products between 2010 and 2016.
“Generic versions of prescription drugs are supposed to be more affordable, while offering the same health benefits to those who need them,” Pa. Attorney General Henry said. “These greedy companies harmed Pennsylvanians by intentionally inflating prices and reducing competition.”
In addition to the payment, the companies have committed to cooperating in ongoing multistate litigation led by Connecticut against 30 corporations and 25 individual executives. The first trial covering the situation will be held in Hartford, Connecticut.
Anyone who has purchased a generic prescription drug from Heritage or Apotex between 2010 and 2016 may be eligible for compensation.
