Officials tour improvements to Pennsylvania American Water treatment plant

Mechanicsburg-based Pennsylvania American Water, the state’s largest regulated water utility, recently hosted a tour of its EH Aldrich Treatment Plant in Elrama to showcase infrastructure improvements.

Company representatives were joined by state and local officials and Washington County Manufacturer’s Association (WCMA) members.

The plant processes 32 million gallons of water on average daily and serves approximately 216,000 connections in southern Allegheny and northern Washington counties.

Upgrades include the rehabilitation of an existing clarifier tank, chemical unloading facility enhancements, raw water intake and pump station upgrades, and the construction of two clarifying tanks to help provide redundancy and assist in the disposal of solids removed during the water treatment, include a 715,000-gallon water tank.

“We are proud to host the WCMA to showcase our $45 million investment in the Aldrich facility,” Bruce Aiton, Pennsylvania American Water vice president of engineering, said. “By upgrading our infrastructure, we are enhancing the reliability and efficiency of our water treatment processes. This is crucial for manufacturers dependent on a consistent, high-quality water supply.”
