CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) – The new graduating class of deputy sheriffs are making their way into communities across Pennsylvania with new skills and training.
On Friday, 38 new deputy sheriffs graduated from the Penn State-run Pennsylvania Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff Education and Training Program. This was the 69th class to go through the program. Previous graduates, family and friends, packed the conference center from all across the commonwealth as graduates walked across the stage to mark the completion of their training.
“It’s really the culmination of 19 weeks of training, in law enforcement practices, from curriculum to handling skills and training,” David White, Director of the program said.

During the ceremony, the room held a moment of silence for the passing of Blair County Judge Fred Miller. Miller was an instructor for 14 years at Penn State and taught the civil law portion of classes. The same training that many say will be used throughout their careers.
