I’ve long had a thing for Ghurka, the American luggage and leather accessories brand inspired by vintage British campaign gear. But unlike the Raj’s officer class, I do not have access to porters, and begrudgingly admit that bags and briefcases made from 100% vegetable-tanned leather also tend to be very heavy.
It’s for that reason that the recently reinvigorated company has unveiled its new City Collection , arguably the most significant development since the nearly 50-year-old brand was acquired by its fourth (and most recent) owner in 2017. The five-piece collection, which includes a crossbody bag , a backpack , a duffel , and more is differentiated by its blending of the saddle-quality leather that the brand is known for with a much lighter—but aesthetically simpatico —Italian nylon.
