(WTAJ) — With a significant winter storm forecasted to sweep across Pennsylvania from Sunday evening into Monday, state officials are urging motorists to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.
Vehicle restrictions and safety protocols will be in effect during the storm to mitigate risks.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PA Turnpike) will implement Tier 2 vehicle restrictions starting Sunday evening, Jan. 5, affecting major highways. These restrictions are part of the commonwealth’s weather event vehicle restriction plan and aim to reduce accidents during the storm.
Roadways Affected by Tier 2 Restrictions
Effective 5:00 PM Sunday, January 5:
- Interstate 79: From the West Virginia border to Exit 77 (PA Turnpike).
- Interstate 70: From the West Virginia border to PA Turnpike Exit 57 (New Stanton).
- Interstate 279: Entire length.
- Interstate 376: From Brighton (Exit 36) to PA Turnpike (Exit 85).
- Interstate 579: Entire length.
