Rhode Island Department of Health Announces Public Notice of Intent for Water System Upgrades

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has issued a public notice of intent to grant a Categorical Exclusion for proposed improvements to the public water system at the Village on Chopmist Hill in Chepachet, Rhode Island. This initiative signifies a crucial step in enhancing the community’s water infrastructure.

The proposed project involves several key upgrades, including:

  • Drilling a new water supply well.
  • Replacing the existing booster pump and filter system with a higher capacity duplex distribution pumping system, along with associated piping and instrumentation.
  • Upgrading the monitoring system and controls within the pump house.
  • Installing two propane-powered emergency generators.
  • Adding two atmospheric water storage tanks and two new control sheds.

Under Chapter 46-12.8 of the General Laws of Rhode Island, it has been determined that the project’s impacts will be minor and short-term. Consequently, the Director of the Department of Health plans to issue a Categorical Exclusion, streamlining the approval process.
