Eighteen-year-old Rhode Island resident dies in Trumbull car collision

TRUMBULL, Conn. (WTNH) — An 18-year-old Rhode Island resident died Friday night in a two-vehicle crash on Route 25 South in Trumbull, says state police.

Around 11:00 p.m., state police say a BMW X1 bearing Vermont license plates and carrying two occupants was driving south on Rt 25 in an unknown lane. Shortly after, a BMW X5 out of Rhode Island with four occupants approached the X1 from the rear.

The operator of the X5 lost control of the vehicle after “sideswiping” the X1’s rear passenger side.

The X5 Spun uncontrollably and struck multiple trees during a series of rollovers, killing 18-year-old Rhode Island resident Timothy Campbell, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The three other occupants of the X5 were taken to local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.

Route 25 at Exit 9 was shut down for several hours as officials investigated the crash. It was later reopened around 6:30 a.m.

State police’s Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Squad is asking anyone who witnessed or has dashcam video of the crash, to contact them at 203-696-8-2500.
