One year later, RI’s Jewish community plans remembrance for Oct. 7 attacks

PROVIDENCE – The Jewish community in Rhode Island will come together Monday, Oct. 7 , to commemorate last year’s Hamas-led attack on Israel in which 1,200 Israelis were killed and some 250 people, including women, children and men, were taken hostage.

The gathering, featuring prayers and speeches by those directly affected by the events of Oct. 7, 2023 , will take place at 7 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center , at 401 Elmgrove Ave. in Providence.

What to know about the Oct. 7 remembrance event

The event is described as “a chance for the community to come together, grieve and renew hope that the hostages will be safely returned and the war will come to an end.”

“On October 7th , the Jewish community will be coming together to remember the 1,200 people who were murdered by Hamas on that awful day last year. We will also pray for those still being held captive a year later,” Adam Greenman, the CEO and president of the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island , said in an email Thursday.
