Saturday letters: Pawtucket state delegation appeals to Hasbro

Hasbro a valued, beloved part of RI

Everyone has a cherished memory of their favorite Hasbro toy.  From Mr. Potato Head, to Cabbage Patch dolls, G.I. Joe, Easy-Bake Oven and countless others − Hasbro’s toys have brought imagination and excitement to the lives of countless children all over the world for generations. For Rhode Islanders, these toys were extra special because we knew they were created in our own backyard in Pawtucket.

Since its founding, Hasbro’s innovation and generosity have always been an integral part of our communities. Hasbro not only created our favorite toys, but they also provided us with top-notch care at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, donated to numerous local charities through the Hasbro Foundation, and created thousands of good-paying jobs for our neighbors. To Rhode Islanders, Hasbro is more than a company − they are a valued and beloved part of the fabric of our state.

As members of the Pawtucket delegation in the House of Representatives, we are concerned by the recent news that Hasbro is considering leaving their home in our city. We understand that the company has evolved and that they need a new space to support their growing needs. Our goal is to provide Hasbro with the resources they need to continue to grow and thrive in Rhode Island. After all, Rhode Island has been their home for over 100 years. As elected leaders, we are firmly committed to working with Hasbro and with the other leaders in our state to address their concerns and help Hasbro grow within our borders.
