Find a collection site for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is on Saturday, Oct. 26, and communities around Rhode Island and Massachusetts are holding their own events.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) started Take Back Day to prevent drugs from ending up in the wrong hands by allowing people to safely and anonymously dispose of expired or unwanted prescription drugs, no questions asked.

Collection sites will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The city of Providence will be hosting events at the Walgreens on Elmwood Avenue, the Providence Public Safety Complex on Washington Street, and at the Providence Community Health Center on Randall Square.

“This initiative helps reduce the risks these medications pose for families in our city,” Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said. “I encourage everyone to visit their nearest take-back site for their safe disposal.”

Other communities hosting events include Pawtucket, Cranston, Warwick and Attleboro.
