One of The Most Haunted Bridges in South Carolina and Legends

Crybaby Bridge has been called one of the most haunted bridges in South Carolina. This particular bridge is in Anderson and over the Rocky River along High Shoals Road. It is said this area is a great place to fish and to see paranormal activity.

There are rumors that other crybaby bridges exist; however, this one is the scariest. The bridge was built in Virginia in 1919 and brought to Charleston, and then in 1952, it was placed in its current location. However, the bridge is now abandoned.

The story states an accident on the bridge late one night. Involved in the accident were a mother and her child, and the child was tossed into the river and died. Another version of the story states that the woman threw her crying baby off the bridge. Later, she was grief-stricken and committed suicide.

However, whichever story you believe, the legend states that if you are on the bridge late at night, you can hear the baby’s cries, and some have even reported seeing a woman walking up and down the bridge in search of her lost baby.
