COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — Both north and southbound lanes of I-95 between Exit 53 and Exit 57 were closed for ten hours Tuesday morning due to a cattle trailer truck carrying over 35 cows coming apart and catching on fire.
At 1:03 a.m. Tuesday, 911 was notified a tractor-trailer was on fire and the cattle trailer was blocking the southbound bridge near mile marker 55, according to Colleton County Fire Rescue.
When crews arrived, they found the cab and chassis of the truck were entirely on fire, and the rear of the truck was hanging over the bridge near mile marker 55. Another part of the cattle truck was submerged in the river, said CCFR.
Both southbound lanes were blocked because of fire and debris in the roadway, and diesel fuel was all over the bridge, leaking into the river.

The truck had run off the road and overturned, according to Lance Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP). The driver of the truck escaped with non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Colleton Medical Center, CCFR wrote.
