Former South Carolina representative, Florence native Mack T. Hines dies at 77

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Longtime South Carolina Rep. and Florence native Mack T. Hines died Thursday at 77, according to the Florence County Democratic Party chairman.

“Rep. Hines served from 1995-2005 advocating tirelessly for the people of Florence and Marion counties,” Isaac Wilson said. “His dedication and commitment to public service set a standard that inspired many.”

Hines graduated from Allen University with a bachelor of arts in 1969 and then from Morris College School of Religion with a bachelor of divinity, according to the South Carolina State House. He started his career as a teacher with Florence 1 School District, where he worked for 12 years.

The South Carolina General Assembly passed a resolution in 2005 to honor Hines after he received his doctorate of ministry from Hood Theological Seminary.

“As we mourn his loss, let us also remember the legacy of service and the positive influence he had on our county and state,” Wilson said. “His contributions will continue to guide us as we work towards a brighter future for all. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
