SOUTH CAROLINA (WJBF) – The South Carolina Department of Public Health is helping state residents who have medical needs.
The agency posted the following on its Facebook page :
Those who are dependent on medical equipment at home and are without power due to Helene may be eligible for a medical needs shelter.
Call the DPH Care Line at 1-855-472-3432 to see if you are eligible and if a medical needs shelter is available in your area.
Eligible individuals will be expected to bring items needed for daily living as well as all medical supplies they need to a designated shelter and to have a caregiver with them at the shelter at all times.
Who can use a Medical Needs Shelter?
People who are currently medically stable at home and not requiring hospitalization. This includes people who:
- Have medical conditions that require electricity support and/or
- Use a hospital bed/ specialized medical bed at home
Admission to the shelter is based on your medical needs and on the shelter’s capacity to meet those needs. Registration and admission are done at the time of an event.
