Hurricane Helene’s wrath brought power outages, downed powerlines, trees, and flash flooding to Greenville County, creating logistical issues for law enforcement agencies and first responders. The storm left thousands without power across the state and more than two dozen dead in South Carolina.
During a press conference at the University Center, different first response officials delivered messages updating the county on what’s happened so far and what’s to come as it recovers from Helene. The storm, which made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane in Florida, brought heavy rain and strong winds to South Carolina Thursday night and Friday morning.
Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis asked people to be patient during this time and to know that making things harder on first responders will only prolong the recovery process.
“Please again, help us, help you, help your neighbor, go check on people,” he said. “Continue to pray for folks in this area. Pray for our brothers and sisters in other counties. There’s a lot going on, and a lot of people want to help, but just please keep in mind that everybody is working as hard as they can. I know tempers draw short and people worry.”
