SC National Guard clears more than 900 miles of debris in Hurricane Helene recovery

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) – The South Carolina Army National Guard said Friday its engineers have cleared over 900 miles of debris after Hurricane Helene brought strong winds, tornadoes, and flooding to the state last week.

Among those efforts, the SC National Guard said they removed 1,746 trees and dedicated 2,554 chainsaw hours to post-Helene recovery efforts.

As relief efforts continue, the guard is using 15 chainsaw teams, 12 debris-clearing teams, and general-purpose troops manning 15 points of distribution in the state.

Soldiers assigned to Bravo Company, 1-118th Infantry Battalion, were seen deploying from Mount Pleasant on Wednesday and traveled to Anderson County where they will remain through October 24 to support local agencies in recovery efforts.
