‘You don’t even get a slap on the wrist’: Some SC law enforcement leaders say there should be harsher penalties for fleeing drivers

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Nearly every day, officers pursue someone on the road in South Carolina. Some in the law enforcement community believe chases could be reduced by increasing the penalties for drivers that flee from police. Right now, if someone drives away from blue lights and sirens, and no one is injured or killed, that person is charged with a misdemeanor.
