For those who have spent time at Paris Mountain State Park, located near Greenville, the charming Paris Mountain waterfall is likely a fond memory—it’s the stunning cascade you can see from the road just before you enter the park. However, many visitors are unaware that there’s another lake within the park, and that the second waterfall at Paris Mountain is actually even more stunning than the one near the entrance.
The primary spillway located at the entrance of the park channels water from the picturesque Lake Placid, while another, less visible waterfall releases water from a different, concealed lake.
If you’re eager to experience these stunning waterfalls up close, you can find them along the Sulphur Springs Trail. This scenic hike spans 3.8 miles, starting from parking area 6 within the state park.
This trail is a loop, offering you the flexibility to start in either direction from the parking lot. However, we recommend starting clockwise. The initial section of the hike can be quite challenging, featuring steep descents into ravines followed by ascents, along with some rough terrain to navigate.

Exploring the forest on foot is a soothing adventure, regardless of the time of year. As the path begins to even out, you know you are getting close to Mountain Lake, which once served as the primary water supply for the City of Greenville.
