Native fashion takes center stage during Black Hills Powwow weekend

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Native designers, models and performers will take over The Monument this week as the Ówaŋg Waštéya Waȟwayela Mani Fashion Show returns during Black Hills Powwow weekend.

The annual show, whose name means “To Walk in Grace and Elegance,” was started in 2023 by Katrina Drust and Duwana Two Bulls. Their goal is to give Native designers and models a bigger platform while highlighting the talent within the community.

This year’s theme, “Wild for Style,” will bring animal prints, patterns and textures to the runway, with 10 Native designers putting their own spin on the theme…
