Death penalty bill struck down in SD Senate

PIERRE, S.D. (KELO) — After an hour of emotional testimony on both sides Thursday morning, a Senate committee killed a bill that would have ended the death penalty in South Dakota.

The Senate Judiciary Committee sent Senate Bill 109 to the 41st legislative day on a 4 to 3 vote.
this effectively kills the bill, unless someone uses a legislative rule to bring it back.

Life in prison would have been the most stringent penalty for Class A felonies, if the bill had gone all the way to the governor’s desk.
