WASHINGTON, D.C. – If you think it’s taking more time for letters and packages through the United States Postal Service to get from point A to point B, you’re right.
According to the USPS, service performance of first-class mail for the Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota region currently sits at 60 percent, down from 89 percent last year at this time. That means only 60 percent of the time, first-class mail is getting to its destination on time.
U.S. Congressman Adrian Smith says the slowdown of the postal service is inexcusable, and the fact that they want to close the North Platte Processing Center will just slow things down even more.
“I fail to understand how they think they can be more efficient when it has been exhibited pretty vividly that the postal service isn’t operating like postal users would expect and pay for.”
A January 10th notice from the USPS announced a consolidation plan to move the processing center from North Platte to Denver, Colorado in an effort to downsize sorting stations across the country.
