1. Peter Norbeck National Scenic Byway
Named after a visionary senator and governor for South Dakota, the Peter Norbeck National Scenic Byway takes visitors through portions of Custer State Park, the Norbeck Wildlife Preserve, and the Black Elk National Wilderness Area.
According to Travel South Dakota , a common starting point is located in the town of Keystone, near the foot of Mount Rushmore. Along the route, visitors will travel through granite tunnels carved into the mountain and past wooden “pigtail” bridges.
