SD receives investment to improve stroke care

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The American Heart Association held a press conference Wednesday to announce a $5 million investment to improve stroke care in South Dakota.

The commitment, titled ‘Lifeline Stroke,’ brings together many levels of healthcare with a common goal in mind.

“We identified it. We got them the right treatment. Our hospitals did a fantastic job. But afterwards, that very intentional, purposeful, post-acute care so that that rehab journey and that recovery journey is the best it possibly can be to get back to that independent living personally, the best living that you could have,” said Melissa Magstadt, SD DOH Cabinet Secretary.

Cardiovascular disease, including heart and stroke conditions, is the leading cause of death in the United States.

Helmsley Charitable Trust donated the $5 million for South Dakota’s stroke care.
