Republican Rep. Scott Odenbach and Democratic Rep. Erin Healy , the respective majority and minority leaders of South Dakota’s House of Representatives, spoke about their thoughts on the election and what they’ll be focusing on in the new session.
What do the results of the election mean for the South Dakota House?
Democrats will have six seats in the House, which is down from seven last year. Healy was the assistant minority leader in the 2024 session where she watched democratic leadership “speak loudly about the issues” they care about, despite the lack in numbers.
“There’s just a few of us out there in peer and we truly need to hold true to our voice in order to make people, make Democrats feel like they’re being heard,” Healy said.
