In the most rural parts of South Dakota and Minnesota, it can take nearly 45 minutes for an ambulance to arrive at an emergency. One rural doctor decided that was too long. Dr. Matthew Owens was a physician in Redfield, South Dakota. He passed away in 2023, but a part of his legacy lives on in north central South Dakota.
