Darius Rucker arrested in Tennessee after drugs found in vehicle during February 2023 traffic stop, report says

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TENN. (WBTW) — Former Hootie and the Blowfish lead, and country music singer Darius Rucker was arrested Thursday in Tennessee after drugs were found in his vehicle during a February 2023 traffic stop for an expired license plate, records show.

Rucker, 57, was charged with two counts of simple possession/casual exchange and violation of registration, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. He was released Thursday on a $10,500 bond, online booking records show.

An arrest affidavit detailed the events leading up to Rucker’s arrest.

At about 10 p.m. on Feb. 19, 2023, an officer saw a dark-colored GMC pickup truck with a Tennessee license plate traveling east on Murfreesboro Road near Carothers. According to an arrest affidavit, the officer suspected the vehicle’s license plate was expired because the tag had a previous version of a Tennessee license plate.

When the officer checked the tag, it came back expired as of July 31, 2022, documents show. As a result, the officer pulled over the vehicle on Murfreesboro Road near Breckenridge and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
