4 men reportedly responsible for $15M in false Medicare billing charged in Middle TN

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Middle Tennessee officials announced Thursday that charges have been filed against four men in connection with schemes to defraud Medicare of millions of dollars.

According to officials, the charges — which have been filed in federal court as part of the the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) 2024 National Health Care Fraud Enforcement Action — stem from schemes to bill Medicare for medically unnecessary genetic tests, medical equipment and medications that were obtained through kickbacks used to obtain doctors’ orders and patient information.

“Fraud and abuse continue to plague our federal health care programs and divert funds away from deserving patients,” said U.S. Attorney Henry C. Leventis for the Middle District of Tennessee . “As United States Attorney for the nation’s health care capital, I am proud of my office’s leadership on health care fraud enforcement and I am very appreciative of Attorney General Garland highlighting our efforts during his remarks earlier today.”
