USA Today names Johnson City, Kingsport as best places to live in Tennessee

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A study conducted by USA Today ranked Kingsport and Johnson City as the best cities to live in across the Volunteer State.

The study ranked 20 Tennessee cities across 16 metrics that focused on activities, walkability, quality of schools, life expectancy, health care, safety, housing affordability and unemployment rates.

USA Today’s study determined Kingsport had the lowest typical rent among the studied cities, coming in at $1,185 a month. The Model City also reportedly has the lowest homeowners insurance premium of $2,019 a year.

The following metrics provided by USA Today placed Kingsport as #2 on the list:

  • Life Expectancy – 73.5 years
  • Median Income – $48,228
  • Typical Rent – $1,185
  • Typical Home Value – $239,625
  • Unemployment Rate – 2.9%

The study ranked Johnson City as #1 on the list, stating it has the second-highest number of primary care providers per 1,000 residents.
