NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Data from the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security shows that over 1,700 pedestrians have been killed across the state since 2010.
A News 2 analysis found that on average, roughly 127 pedestrians have died each year between 2010 and 2023.
In 2024, at least 90 pedestrians have been killed. News 2 did not incorporate the 90 fatalities from 2024 in its analysis as data collection for the year is incomplete.
In total, 1,779 pedestrians died as a result of crashes. The department classified pedestrians as those traveling on foot, in the traffic way, or on private property.

The department did not specify where these pedestrian fatalities occurred, though Tennessee’s Integrated Traffic Analysis Network (TITAN) released a map of non-motorist-involved crashes here .
Additional analysis showed that during that same time period, deadly crashes made up at least six percent of all total pedestrian crashes across the state. You can watch the percentage change in the chart below or use the slider to view the percentage for a given year.
