Georgia Residents Affected by Hurricane Helene Can Apply for D-SNAP Food Assistance

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that individuals in parts of Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee affected by Hurricane Helene may be eligible for food assistance through the USDA’s Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). This program is estimated to provide relief to approximately 982,930 households in Georgia, 152,572 in North Carolina, and 54,692 in Tennessee, helping with grocery expenses as they recover.

Officials stated that D-SNAP allows those who may not normally qualify for SNAP to receive benefits if they meet specific criteria, including disaster-related income limits and expenses.

“USDA is committed to ensuring that families, farmers, and communities impacted by recent hurricanes get the support they need, including assistance with grocery expenses,” said Secretary Vilsack. “The Biden-Harris Administration and USDA will do everything possible to help people respond, recover, and rebuild, no matter how long it takes.”
