JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – On Thursday, shoppers across Tennessee set out for their routine grocery trip before the holiday season. But when they went to pay, they were shocked by what awaited them.
Members of Tennessee Credit Unions participated in a “Grocery Giveaway,” providing shoppers with around $18,000 in free groceries.
When presented with this gift at the PriceLess on South Roan Street, shoppers were at a loss for words.
“It was really amazing,” said shopper Shelia Conner. “I’ve never had anybody do anything like that for me.”

“It just made me cry,” said shopper Lisa Poole. “I just wanted to thank God, that’s how God works.”
Poole went shopping to make fruit baskets for the homeless and was shocked at checkout.
“It doesn’t happen every day,” said Poole. “Things like this don’t happen every day.”
Melanie McWhorton, Executive Assistant for Horizon Credit Union, described the feeling of seeing someone’s day change instantly.
