Officials warn of flooding and heavy rain throughout East Texas

TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – With rain in East Texas to begin the week, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) is partnering up with state and local authorities, to monitor weather conditions.

Monday Evening Forecast: Rain continues through Wednesday, flooding possible

“The National Weather Service is telling us, based on recent forecasting, that they’re now forecasting more rain for East Texas than what was originally anticipated,” said Wes Rapaport, Texas Division of Emergency Management Communications Officer.

In response to the forecasts, the Longview Fire Department is preparing for any potential flooding.

“So, we’ve got several areas in the city that we know will ultimately flood, we do have barricades strategically placed throughout the city that are available to be able to shut down roads if needed,” said Kevin May, Fire Marshal for the Longview Fire Department.

TDEM shares that the key is for people to always be weather aware.

“Those weather threats include: heavy rainfall and what comes down must go somewhere, right, so there’s potential for flash flooding and river flooding in East Texas,” said Rapaport.
