Texas African American Museum unveils marker dedicated to East Texas Rosenwald Schools

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The Texas African American Museum revealed its newest addition on Saturday, a marker dedicated to schools that served black youth during segregation. Between 1917 and 1932, Jewish-American philanthropist Julius Rosenwald helped fund over 5,000 “Rosenwald Schools” across the South, including over 500 in Texas. The idea was born from his friendship with Civil Rights leader Booker T. Washington.
