It’s time for the annual crab trap clean-up in Texas coastal waters. From February 16th through February 25th, Texas coastal waters will be closed to crabbing using crab traps. The closure is to allow volunteers to remove derelict crab traps. According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, over the last 22 years over 42,000 abandoned traps have been found saving an estimated 700,000 blue crabs. Volunteers can pick up free tarps, gloves, and additional information at their local Texas Parks and Wildlife Coastal Fisheries field station. Please go to www.tpwd.texas.gov for more information.
