BENJAMIN ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Earlier this week, Benjamin ISD was awarded a grant allowing them to purchase some much-needed upgrades for their cafeteria.
No Kid Hungry Texas has awarded schools over $10 million in its short time of operation, and BISD was chosen as a recipient of two large grants on February 7.

“No Kid Hungry Texas has been around as a campaign for almost five years with staff on the ground,” Mia Medina, Senior Program Manager of No Kid Hungry Texas, said. “The way that we do our work around grants, we provide basically a startup cost grant to districts to help them with equipment, technology, things like that, to help them improve their programs.”
Benjamin ISD was in the dark ages with their lack of technology, so when Medina saw their application selecting them was a no-brainer.
“Hearing that they had a really dire need for technology so that they can make their cafeteria line go faster,” Medina said. “We thought it was really important to invest in their technology and computer for them so that, you know, the kids can get access to the food quicker.”
