Killeen firefighters return home after two weeks of fighting wildfires across Texas

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Five Killeen firefighters have returned home after their deployment to aid other fire departments with wildfires across Texas. When fires overwhelm a local fire department, a Texas A&M Forest program known as TIFMAS (Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System) organizes firefighters from other departments to assist. TIFMAS organizes different units known as strike teams consisting of firefighters from various departments. Killeen Fire Department Captain Marcus Stillwell said a strike team’s work sometimes doesn’t even involve water.
