Opinion: A Dockworker Strike Will Affect Your Pockets

A dockworker strike in Texas and the East Coast will affect almost everyone in the US. That means all businesses will have their businesses affected if the strike lasts for several weeks.

Dockworkers walked off the job early Tuesday morning to strike over wages and automation. Almost all of the products at local grocery stores will be affected because shipments from the ports on the East Coast entering your neck of the woods will stop. That means some of the popular products will not be available for purchase, and there will be many empty shelves in stores across the United States.

The strike will affect about 45,000 International Longshoremen Association (ILA) union workers at 36 ports. If there is ever a segment of the workforce that would affect almost everyone in the nation, it is the union workers at the shipping ports.

If they stop working, every restaurant, store, and business will not have the supplies to do business. That means there will be shortages, increasing the price of what is available.
