Ted Cruz vs Colin Allred polls indicate tight race as Election Day approaches

A recent poll shows the U.S. Senate race in Texas at a near-dead heat.

For weeks, incumbent Republican Sen. Ted Cruz has maintained a razor-thin lead over U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, D-Dallas. However, polls continue to show the challenger within striking distance through the waning days of the campaign.

A new survey from Emerson College/The Hill shows Cruz leading Allred by only one percentage point — 48% to 47% — with 5% of voters still undecided. The last poll from Emerson, released in September, had Cruz ahead by four percentage points.

The latest polling numbers follow a heated primetime debate between the two candidates in which both sought to cast the other as an extremist. Allred sought to tie Cruz to Texas’ extreme abortion ban while the incumbent worked to blame Allred and Democrats for the chaos at the southern border.

The following day, Allred traveled to El Paso to make his pitch to veterans and rally Democratic voters ahead of the Nov. 5 General Election.
