HR 5342, introduced by Roy’s fellow Texas representative, aims to address inequities in Social Security benefits for public servants such as firefighters, police officers, and teachers. The bill proposes a “proportional model” to fix discrepancies where individuals with pensions from public sector jobs may not receive full Social Security benefits from other employment.

Roy supports this legislation, describing it as a “responsible piece of legislation designed to address a problem head-on.” According to the Social Security Administration, the proposed fix would cost approximately $25 billion.
