Following the death of former US President Jimmy Carter on Sunday, many political figures expressed their appreciation for Carter’s legacy and service.
However, Texas Governor Greg Abbott made a misstep in his tribute to the US leader, mistakenly sending condolences to Jimmy Carter’s late wife, Rosalynn Carter, who passed away in 2023 at age 96.
“Cecilia and I send our prayers and deepest condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family,” the governor wrote.
Two hours after releasing his statement, the governor’s office issued an edited statement. “Cecilia and I mourn the loss of former President Jimmy Carter alongside millions of Americans across the country,” the revised statement said.
Abbott continued: “Our nation remains the greatest beacon of freedom and opportunity in the world because of our fearless chief executives who are our guiding force through the best and worst of times.”
