Fisherman caught in boat during tornado, Texas video shows. ‘I made a poor decision’

A Texas man said he thought a distant storm would bring good fishing.

But within minutes, he was stuck in his boat in the middle of a tornado, video shows.

While fishing in the Stanolind Reservoir in Chambers County on Dec. 28, Brian Johnson captured a video of a fast-moving, intensifying storm engulfing himself, his dog and his friend.

“We’re not in the middle of the sea or in a giant lake, we’re in a small reservoir,” Johnson said in a video uploaded to his YouTube channel. “The boat was right there within casting distance.”

Johnson said in the video they saw the storm across the reservoir and believed it was traveling away from them, adding that the changes in barometric pressure make for good fishing conditions.

“I made a poor decision that put me in the middle of a storm,” Johnson said in the video.

“I won’t be going out just because they’re biting in that kind of weather again,” he said in an interview with CNN.

The National Weather Service reported an EF3 tornado with peak winds of 138 miles per hour in Chambers County on Dec. 28.
