NWS: ‘Widespread freeze’ likely as arctic blast hits Central Texas on Monday. See forecast

The weather in Texas can be unpredictable at times, but Central Texas should prepare for a wintry forecast in the coming week.

A strong cold front is moving in Sunday afternoon and is expected to bring the coldest temperatures we’ve experienced since last winter.

Here is what to be aware of.

NWS: Freeze likely for ‘most of our region’

According to the National Weather Service , a cold front will arrive Sunday night in Central Texas. Anticipate widespread freezes for several mornings, with the possibility of wintry precipitation between Wednesday morning and Friday night, depending on how quickly the disturbance moves.

A strong cold front will move from north to south across our area on Sunday afternoon. A wind shift and surge of drier air from the west are predicted in the late morning to early afternoon, followed by a push of colder air from the north in the evening and overnight hours.

Highs during the first half of next week will generally be in the 40s and 50s, according to the NWS. The Hill Country and areas north of I-10 are likely to experience a freeze on Monday morning, with a more widespread freeze and lower temperatures expected for most of our region on Tuesday morning.
