AUSTIN, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott has proclaimed January 2025 as Human Trafficking Prevention Month in Texas, urging residents to engage in awareness and prevention activities. The initiative aims to combat the modern form of slavery that affects approximately 25 million people annually.Human trafficking, characterized by sexual exploitation or forced labor, poses a significant threat to the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, according to the Office of the Governor. Efforts to eradicate this crime involve collaboration between law enforcement, private organizations, and statewide entities to protect vulnerable populations and bring traffickers to justice. Despite progress, much work remains to eliminate human trafficking entirely.Governor Abbott encourages Texans to educate themselves about the dangers and indicators of human trafficking and to participate in appropriate ceremonies and activities throughout January. “Ending human trafficking is our collective responsibility,” Abbott stated, emphasizing the importance of recognizing warning signs and supporting rescue efforts.The proclamation, signed by Governor Abbott on December 13, 2024, calls on all Texans to observe the month with dedication to raising awareness and honoring those working to end human trafficking.
